Letters, 1823-53, of James Wood Bouldin to Louis C. Bouldin, Powhatan Bouldin & Alice L. Bouldin McCargo constitute the bulk of the collection. Bouldin's letters are divided between a group written home, 1843-44, during an extended trip to New Orleans and Vicksburg, and letters of advise, 1849-50, to his sons at V.M.I. and U. Va. Several of the latter have been extracted into essays on the merits of study. The collection also contains a scrap-book of clippings, 1894, from Powhatan Bouldin's paper, the Danville Times on items of local interest, some of which he has annotated. With the Bouldin family papers is a list of tax delinquents in Augusta County, Va. for 1750 compiled by Robert Breckinridge.
